Learning outcomes

By the end of this PD, participants will:

  • Understand the paraprofessional's reality.See the job your paras actually do before changing anything.
  • Make expectations explicit.Replace "they should just know" with a written, shared role-clarity map.
  • Build a communication system.Set lightweight, repeatable touchpoints instead of hallway guesswork.
  • Recognize the invisible professionals.Treat recognition as a real retention lever, not an afterthought.
  • Make feedback safe and two-way.Build feedback that grows the partnership instead of straining it.
  • Build systems that outlast people.Leave with a partnership that survives staff turnover — and, for leaders, a building-wide policy.
Who this is for

Built for the people doing the work.

Elementary principals, assistant principals, and district leaders who want to turn the teacher–paraprofessional partnership into a system their building can run — not leave it to which two people happened to click.

Grade-band add-ons

The partnership looks different at every grade.

A schoolwide session gets the whole staff the same language — but a kindergarten room with a full-time aide, a 2–3 class with a reading interventionist, and a 4–5 team with a shared para don't share a room the same way. These grade-band working sessions sit each teacher–para team down and tune the partnership to how they actually work: where the demands are highest, where help quietly turns into doing-it-for-them, and what each team needs from leadership.

Each band leaves with shared signals, consistent expectations, and concrete asks — and the included Administration Capstone reads the themes across all three and turns them into a building-wide partnership policy your board can adopt. Run them before your next staff meeting and walk in with a plan, not goodwill.

K–1 · Lower Elementary

Two adults, one busy room. In K–1, five- and six-year-olds need an adult for nearly everything, so the teacher and para are both in motion all day — one leading the group, one holding the room. This session builds the shared signals and routines that let two adults move like a team, not like strangers, when the demands never stop.

2–3 · Middle Elementary

Growing independence — together. In 2–3 the goal is students doing more on their own, which turns every moment into a judgment call: real help can quietly slide into doing it for them. This session gets the teacher and para holding one consistent standard, so a student gets the same answer from both adults — whether they're stuck or soaring.

4–5 · Upper Elementary

Support with dignity, one message. By 4–5 students notice everything — peers, status, who needs help — so visible, mixed-signal support can cost a student standing with classmates. This session aligns the teacher and para on discreet, dignity-first help and one shared voice as students head toward middle school.

Administration · The leadership capstone

Where grade-band input becomes policy. Three grade-band teams just told leadership what the partnership needs; this capstone is what leadership does with it — listen, find the patterns under the personalities, and build partnership systems that outlast any one person. Leaders leave with a Policy Drafting Workbook and a one-page "Policy on a Page" to take to the district and board.

The Administration capstone — included in every add-on bundle. The Administration session is the capstone: it reads the themes across every grade-band working session and turns staff input into one age-appropriate, COPPA/FERPA-aware building-wide AI policy, with a Policy Drafting Workbook and a one-page Policy on a Page. It's bundled into every add-on purchase automatically.
